Weaving the Archive: A Community Engagement Project

Join artist Heléne van Aswegen and Prof Lizabé Lambrechts for a hands-on community project where heritage, art and participation come together.
Throughout the day, members of the public are invited to contribute to a collaborative paper tapestry created from original, deaccessioned (due to its state of deterioration) materials from the Hidden Years Music Archive.
You are welcome to arrive at any time between 10:00 and 16:00. A minimum of 40-minute participation would be appreciated for a meaningful contribution.
Participants will be shown how to weave, bind and rework archival fragments into new forms. No prior experience is needed, only curiosity and a willingness to engage. This project depends on collective participation, and each contribution, no matter how small, becomes part of a larger story.
After your contribution, you are welcome to visit the Museum Café, which will be open for refreshments throughout the day.
