The Stills of Stern and Welz with artist Carl Becker (18yrs+)
“Art peels away our shell and saves us from our spoilt, habitual disregard for what is all around us.” – Alain de Botton
As we move into autumn – a time to avoid the elements and work inside, while surrounded by objects that are sentimental and thought provoking – it is time to think about Still Life.
In this workshop with artist Carl Becker, you will look closely at some of the Irma Stern and Jean Welz still lifes that are part of The Art Collection of Huberte Rupert exhibition and find the lessons they have for aspirant Still Life painters.
By using Stern or Welz as guides, participants will paint their own still life in oil. You will learn more about composition, colour choices and paint handling.
This workshop is suited for beginners, as well as artists who want to refresh their practice. All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own brushes if you wish. Bookings are essential. No walk-ins will be permitted.
