The Abe Bailey Collection – 18th & 19th century British paintings with curator Andrew Lamprecht and art historian Anna Tietze

Celebrating the latest collaboration with Iziko South African National Gallery and the Sir Abe Bailey Trust, the Rupert Museum satellite site – The Burgerhuis – now exhibits a selection of 18th and 19th century artworks from the Abe Bailey Bequest.
This talk and conversation led by Andrew Lamprecht, Iziko SA National Gallery curator of historical paintings and sculpture, and art historian Anna Tietze, will give insight into this exquisite collection of over 400 works. A closer focus is placed on the selection of 18 works currently on loan and shown at The Burgerhuis. This is driven by celebrating sporting, pastoral and landscapes in painting and watercolour, exhibited amongst the antiques that furnished the historic home and landmark in Stellenbosch.
After the talk, an opportunity to visit The Burgerhuis with Lamprecht is available to guests. Please note that the number of seats is limited, due to limited space at the Burgerhuis. If interested, this must be booked with the ticket option below. The shuttle service will run between the Rupert Museum and Burgerhuis for the booked guests. Expect to be back at the museum by 13h15.
The Burgerhuis is furnished with a selection of antiques from the Rembrandt van Rijn Collection, which the Rupert Museum is custodian to, this stretches from silver, glass and copperware to old Cape furniture and a small selection of VOC ceramic collection.
