Garden Week Floristry workshop with Fennec Deuchar

Join Fennec Deuchar at the Rupert Museum and take inspiration from artists like Michèle Nigrini to make your own floral arrangement.

You will learn the basics of flower care, flower arranging equipment, vase selection and offers a demonstration of flower arranging for the home. You will then get to make your own arrangements with assistance from Fennec Deuchar.

Fennec Deuchar is a Cape Town based floral designer who specialises in event floristry. The events world offers an incredible platform for floral art from large installations to small bowl creations and minimalist designs. Alongside running her own events floristry business, Fennec also freelances for eleven of South Africa’s top florists.

‘I am inspired by a wide variety of floral styles from the minimalism of Ikebana to the full, lush arrangements of the Dutch Masters style. Drawing often on my mixed French, South African and New Zealand heritage my style is an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary influences. I love working with flowers and plants as all stages of the floral life cycle offer something for the viewer to appreciate – from the new green bud, to the loud and proud full bloom flower to the dried branch with its crisp, curling leaves; they all have their place and can be used to great effect to create something beautiful. ‘

You are welcome to bring clippings from your garden to learn about how to incorporate these into your arrangements.

What you will need to bring:
– a ceramic, glass or brass vessel or vase (approximately 25 cms, not with a narrow neck)
– secateurs if possible (some will be provided)

All materials and flowers will be provided.

Limited seats available. Bookings are made via Visit Stellenbosch
