Imaging the Self in Plant Portraiture with Museum Educator Maryke van Velden (18yrs+)

“A portrait is a likeness. It is an image that describes the appearance of a model with sufficient accuracy to facilitate identification, but a convincing portrait is concerned with more than salient external characteristics: it manifests personality… artists have to find ways of associating it with observable physical characteristics that can be described visually.”
– Dr Marion Arnold
Inspired by botanical themes from the work of Marion Arnold, this mixed media workshop encourages a digging beyond the metaphorical flowerbed: participants will be guided through various observational drawing exercises of floral subject matter, and experiment with playful layering techniques and decorative patterning, as it speaks to the layering of (often female) identity.
All materials and equipment will be provided. No previous experience needed. Kindly note that, due to the nature of this workshop, refunds cannot be offered for cancellations.
