Latozi MPAHLENI Madosini

Madosini’s music, using the Lydian and Mixolydian scales with the occasional additive rhythm represents possibly the earliest roots of Jazz in Africa. She is a South African cultural treasure being skilled as a great musician, composer, poet, singer, story-teller, and teacher. She was taught to play the Isitolotolo as well as the Uhadi and Umrhube musical bows, from a very young age. Today she is recognized as the most skilled player in these instruments. Madosini is the last survivor of the generation of great bow players.

Pedro Espi-Sanchis

Pedro Espi-Sanchis, was introduced to African music by Dr Andrew Tracey and began what became a lifelong career, learning and teaching in this field. He has specialised in instrumental African music and the reintroduction of the wealth of traditional instruments and knowledge systems to schools and the public in general. Pedro runs intensive teacher training programs for education authorities across Southern Africa and worldwide at Universities, Colleges of Education and festivals.

For the past four years Pedro has been training Primary school teachers in the XyloFun method, his new music education program that coaches teachers and learners into making music with xylophones within a very short space of time regardless of previous training.  So far he has trained 306 teachers and distributed 259 xylophones to disadvantaged schools all aver South Africa.

As much as he is committed to teaching, Pedro also loves his work as a performer, musician, composer and story-teller and he became well-known in South Africa as “Pedro the Music Man” in the Kideo children’s television broadcast in the 1990’s and still broadcast today on DSTV Encore channel.
