Museum Saturday Painting Restoration talk with Peter Spence

Introduction to painting restoration with Peter Spence.

“Many of the restorations I’ve received have come from people who tried to do the work themselves, but realised it was beyond them. Each painting has its own requirements. There are no shortcuts in restoration. Why risk damaging something so valuable in order to save a bit of money?”

Join acclaimed art restorer Peter Spence at the Rupert Museum as he gives an introduction to the restoration of paintings.

This talk forms part of the first in the series to follow on the new ‘behind the scenes’ exhibition ‘The Active Archive – Unveiling Collections Management’ on show in Gallery 1.

Peter Spence have worked closely with the paintings in the collections managed by the Rupert Museum, this professional relationship is entering its 40th year.

That being said, most of the paintings enjoyed by our visitors have either had a clean, retouching, relining or full restoration done by Spence.

Attendance to this talk is free, booking is essential as limited seats are available.
