Museum Saturday Active Archive In Action
See first-hand how conservator and specialist Angela Zehnder approaches the cleaning of a mix media artwork.
Zehnder will be available to address some questions from the public as she works from the exhibition Active Archive.
As artworks are cleaned they might reveal problematic areas, please note that this real time demonstration is a work in progress and will only be completed in full during April.
The artwork under the microscope Crossroads completed in 1991 by South African artist Willie Bester.
Bester is known for his iconic assemblage works, layering and texturing the surface with found objects and material.
Crossroads became part of the Rembrandt van Rijn Collection when it was acquired from the 1991 Cape Town Triennials. Bester received a merit award for this controversial, outspoken and loaded social commentary work.
