HERITAGE MONTH celebrations ending on a high
September is the month for celebrating who we are as South Africans, continuing on the hype the popup outdoor exhibition featuring the work by local schools. Fifty learners between Grade 8 and Grade 12 from Lückhoff, Stellenzicht, Kylemore, Apex and Eerste River contributed to the successful execution of mural panels making up this exhibition. These learners were taught and guided by well-known Capetonian street artist Ras Silas Motse, whose works adorn public and open spaces from Cape Town through to Worcester.
The key difference between what Graffiti and Street Art resembles and cues on how one can make your art into a business was shared with these youngsters. We really enjoyed showcasing these panels celebrating parts of our unique Heritage this month.
The public favourite will be announced on Museum Saturday and the creators of the panel with the most votes will each receive art materials. If you are not able to make it – keep an eye on our social media for a poll going live on Heritage Day – and stand a chance to win a hamper (lucky draw to take place on Museum Saturday as well – you don’t need to be present to claim your prize – we will be in touch).
